Brighton tailor Gresham Blake teams up with Ridgeview for Peter James scripted mystery

Sussex winery Ridgeview was transformed into the perfect location for a collaboration between iconic Brighton fashion designer Gresham Blake, celebrated international crime author Peter James and renowned English actor Ray Winstone. They have all teamed up in an original way to produce a short film commissioned to launch the latest collection SS17 of Gresham Blake’s fashion range.

‘Murder at Ridgeview’ is a tongue-in-cheek story that focuses on the fictional character of a PR representative confronted by a difficult journalist at a Ridgeview Summer garden party, which results in four scenarios of how it may be possible to create the ‘perfect murder’ in a winery.

The idea for the project came from a meeting with Gresham Blake at Ridgeview, exploring how the brands could collaborate. “I wanted to do a crime story to promote my SS17 collection, and Ridgeview winery seemed the perfect location. Peter James is a friend and client so I asked him to write a mini story. He did and being Peter he managed to put in 4 murders” commented Gresham

The fashion shoot which took place last Summer was directed by fashion Photographer Kenny McCracken. They were also joined by various industry friends in the shoot which included Brighton wine merchant Henry Butler and Adam Smith General Manager of Ockenden Manor Hotel.

Peter James remarked “I particularly love Ridgeview and actually served their wine for our own wedding. I came over here with Lara about a year and a half ago to do a tasting, and I thought you know, this would be a great place for a murder!” Ray Winstone and Gresham have partnered-up on various projects so Ray was approached as the ideal narrator for the film. “I like Gresham’s clobber, and this Peter James story is a bit of fun” said Ray.

Mardi Roberts, Sales and Marketing Manager from Ridgeview; “It was such a great project to be involved in. We have been long admirers of Gresham Blake designs and the author Peter James, so this seemed like a fantastic opportunity for our local Brighton based brands to join together in a project with an element of edginess and fun. The addition of Ray was Gresham’s masterstroke!”.

Ridgeview named Viticulture Grower of the Year

Ridgeview has been proclaimed as Viticulture Grower of the Year in Horticulture Week’s Annual Grower of the Year Awards. Hosted at the Grand Connaught Rooms in London, the awards gathered over 500 professionals to celebrate the very best of UK production horticulture. As proof of how far the English wine industry has progressed Grower of the Year Awards introduced a category for Viticulture for the first time in 2017. There are now over 500 vineyards in the UK producing over 5 million bottles per year and the land under vine in England in 2017 is set to increase by 18%.

Ridgeview have been pioneering in English sparkling viticulture since their foundation in 1995. Established by Mike and Chris Roberts they were one of the first to identify the potential of Southern England as a world class sparkling wine producing region. The viticultural map of the UK has changed dramatically in Ridgeview’s life time. Cool climate wine production is challenging and Ridgeview have learnt to adapt processes and techniques to reflect this. From the onset, Ridgeview have been committed to sustainable practices in viticulture and are widely regarded for their dedication to quality and innovation.

Ridgeview’s Viticulture Grower of the Year award was accepted by Vineyard Manager Matt Strugnell, who has managed Ridgeview’s home estate and has assisted many of their partnership vineyards for over 15 years. Matt has been instrumental in the care and attention to detail of the vineyard and passionate about the production of the very best grapes possible.

Quote from Matt: ‘This was the first time that viticulture has been recognised by an award in the UK, and to be the recipient was a real honour and something of which I am very proud. Managing one of the leading vineyards in the English sparkling wine revival has its challenges but has been so rewarding. This award is a great acknowledgment of Ridgeview’s innovation and progression in the last 20 years. ‘

Ridgeview now export 20% of production to 13 countries around the world and their sparkling wines have been used on many prestigious occasions including served by the Queen to President Obama and the Chinese State President. This success could not have happened without the raw material of grapes being of the highest quality and Ridgeview are thrilled for this to be acknowledged by Grower of the Year Awards.
