Ridgeview was founded in 1994 by Mike and Chris Roberts, sadly Mike Roberts passed away in 2014. A pioneer in the English Wine Industry, Mike was chair of the English Wine Producers and was awarded an MBE for his services to English wine in 2011.

The second generation of the Roberts family continue active roles in the management, winemaking and marketing of their award winning wine and carry on the legacy of producing the finest Traditional Method English Sparkling Wines.

The family's dedication, passion and determination have significantly contributed to the international reputation and popularity now attributed to English Sparkling Wine.

This passion and determination is shared by a great team of dedicated staff who are all fundamental to the continuing success of Ridgeview.

Ridgeview’s trade mark MERRET™ is in honour of Englishman Christopher Merret. In 1662 he presented a paper to the Royal Society in London which documented the process of making traditional method sparkling wines. This was 30 years before the technique was documented in champagne. To celebrate Merret’s achievements Ridgeview has kept a London connection when naming our range of wines.

"Would I admit to my French friends (who make such glorious wine) how often I drink English these days? Yes. Proudly."

Hugh Johnson

" Here’s one of England’s finest fizzes, with lovely freshness, lemony acidity and a bit of toasty richness. Quite complex and brilliantly balanced, this would convert any sceptic."

Jamie Goode

"… Today’s king of fizz is Mike Roberts of Ridgeview Estate."

Anthony Rose

"England's vinous glory: fizz made in the image of champagne.  Alluring and zesty - a sort of rustic Bollinger."

Jancis Robinson

"If the Champenois get to taste this ...They will be booking their seats on the Eurostar."

Tim Atkin
