Ridgeview served at World Wine Atlas launch in New York with Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson

Ridgeview Bloomsbury 2010 was the choice for two of the world’s most respected authorities on wine, Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson, to launch their 7th Edition of the World Atlas of Wine in New York.

The event was hosted by HM Deputy Consul General of New York, Nick Astbury in mid-town Manhattan. Winemakers, journalists, importers, publishers and friends gathered together to celebrate the book which is receiving fantastic reviews.

The World Atlas of Wine is seen as one of the most essential and authoritative wine reference books and has sold over 4.5 million copies. The latest 7th Edition published by Octopus, reflects the changing nature of the Wine World in the last seven years.

Mike Roberts was honoured to be able to attend the event and extremely proud that Ridgeview was chosen by wine world luminaries Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson.

Mike commented, “A superb location to launch the latest edition of an impressive and globally important Wine Atlas. Those attending exemplified how much esteem there is attributed to Hugh and Jancis to all that they have done for the wine world. From my point of view this was a wonderful privilege for us to have such significant guests tasting our Ridgeview wines.”

Hugh Johnson, who has led the world of wine writing for over 40 years, selling over 17 million books on wine, recently commented “Would I admit to my French friends (who make such glorious wine) how often I drink English these days? Yes. Proudly.”

As president of the Sunday Times Wine Club Hugh became an early champion of Ridgeview and regularly serves our wine at his private events. Hugh remarked in the Wall Street Journal that his favourite sparkling wine was not Champagne but a sparkling wine from England produced by Ridgeview.

Jancis Robinson MW was awarded an OBE for her services to the wine industry in 2003. Jancis is the wine correspondent for the Financial Times and also operates a very successful award winning wine website and has published three editions of the Oxford Companion to Wine. Time Magazine once quoted Jancis as saying that the next best place to Champagne to produce sparkling wine is Southern England due to its similarities in climate, proximity and geographic conditions.

Export is now a significant growth area for Ridgeview with our wines sold to 12 overseas markets including USA, Australia, Japan, Scandinavian monopolies and many prestigious restaurants around the globe.

We have been exporting our wines direct into New York for the last three years and are listed in fine restaurants including Gramercy Tavern ran by Danny Meyer of the Union Square Hospitality Group. Our other range of South Ridge wines are available across the US via the Wall Street Journal Wine Club.
