Castle Brook Vineyard

Established in 2004, Castle Brook is a family-run vineyard that sits on 2.5ha of south-facing slopes, in an ancient meander of the Wye Valley. They benefit from a temperate microclimate with mineral-rich, free-draining soil ideal for growing traditional Champagne grape varieties. It is believed that their hillside was originally terraced by the Romans for this very purpose.

The Castle Brook name is derived from the farmhouse that sits at the bottom of the vineyard; an ancient coaching inn, mentioned in the 1086 Domesday book. From the top of the vineyard, the views reach down the valley and over their Herefordshire land (Cobrey Farm) where they grow some of the the country’s finest asparagus and blueberries. Drawing on deep knowledge as fourth-generation farmers, they uphold the highest standards in the vineyard to produce grapes of exceptional quality.

“From one family business to another, we understand the importance of quality, attention to detail and a first-class customer experience.”

Castle Brook’s commitment to excellence is reflected in the quality of grapes they produce. They share our dedication to making the very best sparkling wines, with sustainability at their core:

“Our long experience in growing a diverse range of crops has taught us valuable lessons in sustainability which we apply directly to our vineyard. John Chinn, who established Castle Brook, is a trusted advisor across a broad range of government-commissioned and academic projects conducting research into soil management, agronomy and harvest practices to minimise negative impact on nature and the environment guides. The key focus for our vines is quality above quantity; a shift from the dynamic of traditional agricultural practices which encourages us to tread more lightly on the land.”

Harvest is a treasured time at Castle Brook; they often mark the occasion with friends and family to start the picking together.

“We keep our team motivated by serving up previous vintages which keeps our focus on the end goal – growing fantastic grapes to make fantastic wine, enjoyed in the best of company – with friends and loved ones, old and new!”

“We love walking to the top of the vineyard of a weekend, with bottle (or two) in a chiller and asparagus-based nibbles to watch the sun set over the valley.”
