Our sole focus in the winery at Ridgeview is minimal intervention, to let our exceptional grapes speak for themselves and nurture the juice into making the best wine possible. Balance is at the heart of all of our wines, making the most of the full fruit flavours in harmony with our wonderful cool climate acidity.
Founder, Mike Roberts MBE, was originally at the winemaking helm ably assisted by his son Simon, to whom he passed his considerable knowledge and experience. Simon Roberts is now Ridgeview’s Head Winemaker, supported by a highly experienced and talented winery team.
We continue to invest in the most modern, specialist machinery and proudly craft every element of our production methods on site, from hand picking all our grapes, gently pressing them to extract maximum flavour, bottling, riddling, disgorging and labelling. By combining a modern approach to sparkling winemaking whilst learning from past traditions, we seek to ensure that every stage of the winemaking and production process lives up to our meticulous quality standards.
Ridgeview has one of England’s only bespoke underground sparkling wine cellars. Here, our wines are stored in perfect conditions to facilitate the all-important secondary fermentation and lees ageing process. This ensures the development of incredibly high quality, bottle fermented sparkling wines with the finest bubbles and a perfect mousse.
Our winemakers are also responsible for making some of the most lauded English sparkling wines, including Laithwaites – South Ridge, Waitrose – Leckford, Booths – English Sparkling, Marks & Spencer – Marksman and the Wine Society – Exhibition range label. The confidence these brands have in Ridgeview and the accolades the wines achieve are testament to the trusted skills and craftmanship of our entire winery team.
